Solving Global Warming

Solving Global Warming In The United States

First of all, the first thing I noticed in one of these paragraphs is it states “Starting off with the united states is a good start, but it has to be more than just the united states.” This is important because basically its saying, yeah, we can make a difference if we want, but we have to all work together to fix this ecenomical world problem. In one of the paragraphs it states that the most important thing for the new president to focus on is Global Warming and climate Changes. I would have to disagree with this. I disagree because our biggest problem at the moment is the war on terrorism. But beyond the war, I would think that Global Warming is our second biggest problem.

The affects on the Arctics

Each year the temperatures are rising in the world. The arcticts are affected majorly by the rising temperatures.  As you may know, the arctics are mostly ice, and ice has to stay at a cold temperature at 31 degrees before it starts to melt. The major affects of Global Warming is retreating sea ice, melting glaciers, thawing  permafrost, increasing coastal erosion, and shifting vegetation zones.

1. I found this timeline to be interesting..

1800s – The CO2 in the atmosphere is about 290 parts per million (ppm)

1824- Mathematician and physicist Joseph Fourier discovers that atmospheric gases might increase the Earth’s surface temperature, called the greenhouse effect.

1896- Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius explains his theory that doubling the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere might raise the earth’s temperature by 5 or 6 degrees Celsius.

1930s- Scientists start to notice that the earths temperature is slowly rising each year.

1938- Guy Callendar suggests the greenhouse affect is the cause of Global Warming. Others greatly dismiss the suggestion.

1957- Oceanographer Roger Revelle reveals that the oceans cannot absorb all of the CO2

1971- The Mariner 9 spacecraft around Mars observes an example of global climate change through a massive dust storm that warms the surface because of the dust’s absorption of solar radiation.

2000- Lobbyists start realizing that Globam Warming is Real and a serious issue

2008- Delegates from 16 nations gather in Hawaii to discuss climate change. The conference ends without a concrete plan to slash greenhouse gas emissions.

2. Al Gore Announces Anti-GW efforts.

Al Gore launched a multi-million dollar campaign calling for the united states to reduce its Greenhouse Gas Emmissions. “We’re trying to get a movement happening to switch public opinion so that our leaders feel, ‘Wow! We really need to make this a top priority issue,’” alliance CEO Cathy Zoi told The Associated Press. Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler said the former congressman is participating because he agrees on the need for a bipartisan approach to climate change. In Gingrich’s new book, “A Contract with the Earth,” he says that conservatives are natural environmentalists.

The Affects of GW

Introduction Information Possibly a good qoute Footage of topics that will be covered

Affects on the Environment

Reduced ice caps, raising sea levels, climate changes, and extinction of animals. More extreme weather ( pictures and graphs to prove it).

Health related affects

Excess water, spread of disease and flooding of the coasts. Interveiwing people on the street could cover these issues.

Conclusion

Experts conclude that Global Warming is a serious problem.

visual metaphors

1. Gas consuming Vehicles.

2. Gas consuming Products.

3. Gas.

4. Factories

5.  Gas consuming Machinery.

I think factories are most affective because some not only use gas, but they release alot of smoke into the atmosphere which is one of the main causes of Global Warming. I also think factories are mos affective because they would be easy to find and film

-After all the following ideas above, Me and Chris Jones decided we would film an Ice cube melting in a beaker on a Bunson Burner. We decided we would film this because the Ice Cube represents the Glaciers melting, the Beaker would represent the earth, and the Bunson Burner would represent the earths atmosphere we are destroying.

Script

Hello, My name is Nick and I’m from Parkway North High School. I’m calling regarding Global Warming for a school project. I’m looking for someone who is an expert on Global Warming. Is there any way I can set up an appointment for an interview?

-In person interview

- Ask in area.

-Make sure you get information (when, where, what time, who the person is you’re interviewing)

- Make sure you give a call back number.

My information on Global Warming!

What is Global Warming?

Facts of Global Warming

Greenhouse gas emissions (including carbon dioxide) that are released in the air by burning fossil fuels.

- I liked this website because all in one article it answered several of our classes questions, such as the following.

What causes Global Warming?

Global warming is caused by the burning of Fossil Fuels which releases Greenhouse Gas emissions into the earths atmosphere which slowly destroys the Greenhouse gasses.

How can we prevent Global Warming?

Driving Hybrid vehicles

Al Gore’s Environmental Work Spurs Talk of Run for Presidency

- I don’t really like this website because it talks about how a politician was planning on making movements to prevent Global Warming and I don’t understand politics, and seeing that the whole article was about a politician, it was speaking in political languages, therefore I didn’t like it.

More facts of Global Warming

- I like this website because unlike others, it starts off with a story describing how things can affect the Greenhouse.

- In this website, it explains how if you plant trees, it absorbs carbon dioxide in the air. It explains that the more carbon dioxide in the air, the faster our greenhouse gasses get destroyed, which causes Global Warming.

Kyoto Protocal information

- I like this website because in the second paragraph it explains exactly what the Kyoto Protocol is. I think it is useful because as I was reading through the paragraphs about Global warming, Kyoto Protocol was being brought up continuously and I really didn’t understand what it meant, so I did research and this is what I found.

- The Kyoto Protocol was originated in Kyoto Japan on December 7th 1997. The Kyoto Protocol is a basic document that encourages countries to try and lower Green house gasses (GHG). But along with this document that Japan created, they got countries to sign it. By signing the Kyoto Protocol, the countries HAD to do events that helped lower carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere. The United States actually did not sign this document because it was bad for business.

Reflection.

1. I think global warming is a good topic to be studdied in the class. I still don’t think Global Warming is as good as a topic as Religious Descrimination. I think Global warming is still a serious problem that should be fixed not only in the united states, but all around the world. If we slowly continue to cause Global Warming, the worlds weather will slowly get worse and worse. The temperatures will rise, and all the polar ice caps will melt. Thats why I think global warming is a good topic to study.

2. Yesterday, I learned that it is pretty easy to prevent Global Warming as easy as it is to cause Global warming. I learned that factories, cars, and smoking (basically air pollution) is what mainly causes Global Warming.

3. A problem we could face during our documentary is when we are supposed to interview people. Not many people really know about Global Warming and if they do who knows if their facts are true? Thats why I think we should have done Religious Descrimination because thats something alot of people know about and it is based mostly on preference. I think another problem would be visual evidence, because we cant really get pictures of gasses.
